We picked up our puppy, Chance, on February 27, 2010. He did get car sick…just too much for him on his day to leave his litter and get in the car for a four hour drive. But once we got home, he settled in nicely. He is very calm, yet playful, smart, and very loving. He does not bark. Oh, and of course, very handsome!! Even at this young of an age, he seems to want to please us.
We had no separation issues at bed time. He slept through the night the first night and remains to be a good sleeper until about 6:30am. We made an area in my son’s room for him to sleep but also be confined (it is not his kennel…..I read that this might help in separation issues.) We are close to him, but he is not on our bed. He can hear us breathing and smell us, and if he needs a little loving, we just pet him and let him know everything is OK. I bought a kennel big enough for him to grow into so it is not convenient to be carrying it around. So he has his kennel downstairs during the day, and we are having him sleep upstairs in the confined area in my son’s room. It has worked great for us.
Here is his two week update: He weighs 10.4 pounds, he loves his toys, loves to play fetch, and is learning to sit, lie down, off, stay, leave it, and come. As a mentioned before, he seems to want to please us, so a simple no or a clap of the hands stops any bad behavior (which is very little) and off he goes to chew on his own toys!! He truly is the best puppy. We had friends over last weekend and they could not believe how well behaved and well mannered he is. Potty training is going good also. Only a few accidents in the house. I am still working on getting him to ring a bell to let me know when he needs to go outside. But at this time, it is me letting him out every 2 hours or so and praising him for going potty outside.
It is amazing how quickly you can fall in love. We are so pleased with our decision to get a Goldendoodle and to work with Whispering Pines Kennels.
